Daughter's highly reactive dog who guards her from everyone instantly bonds with her new boyfriend, leaving her hopeful to grow her family even bigger, daughter says: 'It was like love at first sight'

Everyone with a reactive dog knows this struggle.

The biggest problem most people have with dogs is that they can't be left alone. For those of us with reactive dogs, the problem is making other people leave them alone. It's a daily struggle. From other dog owners not having their dogs on leashes to people thinking it's okay to pet every dog they see (even if they don't know them), our experience with our reactive dog in particular has taught us a lot about how to communicate and respect others' boundaries.

Every reactive dog owner's experience is different, but we can highly relate to the one below. In it, a daughter adopted a dog who was neglected and found in a basement, and her father describes the dog as "every owner's nightmare" (sound familiar, yet?). Her dog loves her and tolerates her family, but won't let anyone physically touch her owner, the daughter. Not even her dad. But, something magical happened that no one saw coming, and gave them some hope that their family might be able to grow a little bit bigger with the right people.

Dogs have a strong sense of character judgment, and she must not have sensed any fear in him when they met. Also, she probably came home smelling like him a couple of times, so the smell of him wasn't new and scary. But sometimes, dogs just decide they like someone, and we're happy that the three of them can start to build a beautiful family together!

Most people can scroll on their phones while walking their dog, but we have to be 100% aware at all times to make sure our dog, and everyone around us, stays safe. Some reactive dogs are afraid of other dogs, others people, but the unfortunate reality is that their world is filled with things that make them uncomfortable, and the only tool they have to communicate that is through aggression.
